The coolest thing about the Svan Chair? It transforms! Use it as a classic highchair for your young baby. In a few months, you can remove the tray, letting your baby sit right at the table with the rest of the family. You said the Svan Chair is safety certified. What does that mean?
The Svan Chair was designed around the rigorous safety standards in Europe and is certified in the U.S. to meet the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) safety standards. These standards are developed by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, consumer groups, industry members, and other interested parties.

All Svan products are tested by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) to make sure that they meet ASTM standards. You can find the JPMA gold safety seal sticker on every Svan Chair.

Is there a safety harness on the Svan Chair?
Yes! All Svan Chairs come with a three-point safety harness. Children should use this harness until age three. You can remove the harness by taking off the backrest, then sliding the harness off the main beam.

Unlike high chairs with five-point safety harnesses, the Svan Chair's three-point design lets your child interact normally with the family at the table and enables proper ergonomic support and posture development.

What type of wood is used to make the Svan Chair?
The Svan Chair is made of bent birch wood. Bent wood is made using an environmentally-friendly process that is unique to European production processes: hot irons steam and mold the wood, avoiding the need to treat it with harsh chemicals.

What's inside Svan cushions?
Svan fills its chair cushions with inert polyurethane foam and covers them with a easy-to-clean cotton/polyester blend fabric. Svan's chair cushions are machine washable and PBDE free.

Can the glue or stain finish on the Svan Chair harm my child?
No! All materials used in the production of the Svan Chair meet US Federal Regulations for safety and are not harmful to your child.

Has my high chair ever been recalled?
If you have a Svan High Chair, Prod. No. 0303, it may have been involved in a limited recall. Not all Svan Chairs are affected by the recall. Please call Scandinavian Child's customer service department at 1.866.782.6222 with any questions.

ASSEMBLY & ADJUSTMENT

The tray is loose. How do I fix it?
Check the screws on your tray clips; most likely, they're not completely tightened. Pay special attention to the screws closest to the bend in the tray clip. Even a quarter of a turn of the screw can make a big difference.

The crotch bar doesn't attach to the guard. Help!

1. The seat should be no more than one inch down from the highest position.
2. Double check that you're attaching the crotch bar properly. The end with the hole connects to the inside edge of the guard; the end with the groove goes under the seat.

Why does my tray slope?

1. Make sure the seat is near the top position: it should be within one inch of the top of the upper groove in the main beam.
2. Adjust the connection between the U-bar and the Crotch Bar so that the top of the U-bar is parallel to the floor.

Do I ever have to tighten the hardware?
You might need to; you should check your chair for looseness regularly. The Svan Chair is made of natural materials; as they mature, they may loosen up a bit. Check the hardware about a month after you first put the chair together, and every once in a while after that, especially if you move the chair around a lot or carry it in the car.

Can I take the harness off?
Yes! Just take off the chair back, then slide the harness off the main beam. Please make sure to replace and use the harness when children under 3 years old are using the chair.

How do I clean my Svan Chair?
Clean the Svan Chair just like any other wooden furniture: use a damp cloth with mild soap, or any other cleaner labeled for use on wood. Don't dunk it in water, and dry it off after cleaning and spills.

How do I wash my Svan Chair Cushion? Can it be washed in the washing machine?
Absolutely! Your chair cushion can go right into the washing machine on the delicate cycle; toss it in the dryer on low heat when it's done. You can also wipe it clean with a damp cloth.

I've heard the Svan Chair is small and portable. Can I take it in the car?
Sure! The Svan Chair's design makes it a solid, sturdy piece of furniture; it's also compact enough to fit in the car. Just store it upside-down, without the tray, in the seat or trunk. Make sure to check the hardware when you arrive, and tighten anything that may have come loose.

Can the Svan Chair adjust to the height of my countertop bar?
The Svan Chair allows a child to sit up to an average table, usually about 30 inches high; it's not designed for counter or bar seating.

How much does the Svan Chair weigh?
The complete Svan High Chair, with the infant kit and cushion attached, weighs less than 20 pounds.

When is my child ready for solid food?
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children start eating solid foods around 4 - 7 months of age. It's important to sit your child upright for solids; children should not eat solid foods in a reclined position.

Is my child ready for the Svan High Chair?
